Free from the constraints of road cycling, such as brakes and drivetrains, Colnago’s engineers have been able to push the limits of aerodynamics and stiffness even further.

The T1Rs marks Colnago’s return to the velodrome. Its frame and components have been designed and engineered to minimize air resistance at high speeds and reduce energy losses thanks to their exceptional stiffness.
Development process
When developing the T1R, Colnago’s R&D team focused on four core areas that define success on the track:
Aerodynamics — shaped to minimize air resistance and maintain efficiency at top speeds.
Stiffness — engineered to eliminate power loss and ensure every watt is converted into acceleration.
Versatility — designed to adapt to a variety of track disciplines, allowing riders to easily fine-tune their setup.
Geometry — available in three carefully developed sizes to suit the specific demands of every racing style, from pursuit to sprint.
Versatility tailored for racing
The T1Rs platform can be configured in two different setups depending on the type of racing:
- sprint/endurance
- TT/pursuit
The sprint/endurance setup offers maximum adjustability and precise control thanks to compatibility with standard 31.8 mm diameter handlebars. Its mounting system for frame, fork, and stem, secured by two clamping bolts, increases both bending and torsional stiffness, while the T-shape construction further minimizes deformation under load. The stem is available in three lengths – 125 mm, 150 mm, and 175 mm, all with a 6.5° angle – and can be fine-tuned using up to four 5 mm adjustable spacers, providing a total adjustment range of 20 mm to perfectly suit every rider’s position.
The TT/pursuit configuration is equipped with a monocoque carbon stem and base bar unit, designed for maximum stiffness and seamless aerodynamic integration. The handlebars are 380 mm wide, with the cover positioned 17 mm below the frame’s reference line and a base of the post with a reach of 93 mm and a height of 25 mm relative to the frame. Modular aero extensions provide multiple hand positions for optimized ergonomics, while an integrated mount accommodates cycling computers or race transponders, ensuring both performance and functionality for track racing.
