Description
The Princeton CarbonWorks Wake 6560 was designed in 2012, and the first ridable models were completed in 2015.
Since then, four versions of our flagship wheel have been created, each offering improvements in aerodynamic performance and efficiency, weight, stiffness, response, and quality.
The unique and balanced combination of features has made the Wake 6560 the wheel for those seeking top-tier performance: aerodynamically faster than deeper wheels, lighter and more maneuverable than shallower wheels, and at the same time stiff, responsive, and lively under power. And now, in its fifth generation, the legend evolves.
The Wake 6560 Evolution introduces a revolutionary new shape and is the second wheelset in our Evolution series after the Alta 3532. The result of extensive testing and development is a wheelset that’s even more efficient than its predecessor, the Wake 6560 Strada. Even more impressively, the new Wake 6560 Evolution represents the biggest step in performance change between any two versions across all iterations of the Wake series.
The Wake 6560 shape, instantly recognizable from previous versions, has changed substantially. Our new Evolution profile matches the alternating deep and shallow rim sections with the alternating spoke sides. Mechanically, this allows the steeper, high-tension spokes (rear drive-side spokes and front disc-side spokes) to connect to the deeper section of the rim, evening out the angles of these spokes. Changing the strut angle helps balance spoke tension and creates a stiffer and more uniform wheel. This patented technology, Radially Staggered Lacing, is exclusive to Princeton CarbonWorks road wheels.
The Wake 6560 Evolution is also progressively wider and lighter than its predecessor. The greater width (21 mm internal, 28.2 mm maximum external) is optimized for the 25-28 mm tires currently raced by professional cyclists. The result is a wheel with even better aerodynamic efficiency at all yaw angles and better handling in tricky crosswinds. Rim weight has been reduced by 10 g per rim, helped by an overall shorter inner-edge bead length. The rim brake track and hooks remain. Ride how you want, with what you want. Rim-brake rims will always be available, and the Wake 6560 Evolution will continue to feature a hookless, hole-free bed, tubeless-ready, accepting clincher/tubed tires or tubeless tires without the need for tape and without tire pressure restrictions.
